Free Account Building Guide

Here are my recommendations on astro selection for a free account. There are differing opinions, but I believe these balance your needs for economic growth, production capacity, research capabilities, and defensive requirements.
Please note that when I make recommendations and it is a list or has options, I place my preference first.
The first thing I want to mention is base specialization.
Given nine bases:
1 Fortress
3 Research, one primary and two secondary
5 Production/Econ, two primary and three secondary
The fortress base needs to be on a moon or an asteroid. There is a lot of debate about which, and both discussions are valid. I recommend a 2nd or 1st orbit rocky/metallic/crater moon or a 2nd or 1st orbit asteroid
For research bases I recommend a 2nd or 1st orbit arid/tundra planet.
For production bases I recommend a 2nd or 1st orbit rocky/metallic/crater planet or moon. Choose a planet if you want an extra 10 area right now. Choose a moon for the lower price p shields and p rings later down the road.
A good intermediate build for a fortress is:
2nd orbit Rocky moon
Urban Structures 14
Solar Plants 10
Fusion Plants 5
Metal Refineries 16
Robotic Factories 9
Shipyards 12
Spaceports 15
EC 5
NF 5
Terraform 5
CC 5
Photon t 2
D turret 2
This gives 92 Econ 92 Construction and 110 Production. Additionally, 4 trade routes and can build up to heavy cruisers.
2nd orbit Asteroid
Urban Structures 14
Solar Plants 8
Fusion Plants 5
Metal Refineries 16
Robotic Factories 8
Shipyards 12
Spaceports 15
EC 1
NF 2
Terraform 5
CC 5
Photon t 2
D turret 2
This gives 73 Econ 78 Construction and 96 Production. Additionally, 4 trade routes and can build up to heavy cruisers.
There will be variations for metallic/crater and for orbit 1 instead of 2. The number urban structures and solar/fusion plants will vary. If you need to not build some other buildings, build fewer RFs.
A good intermediate build for a primary research base is:
2nd orbit Arid/Tundra planet
Urban Structures 17
Solar Plants 9
Fusion Plants 8
Metal Refineries 13
Research labs 22
Robotic Factories 7
Shipyards 10
Spaceports 15
EC 5
NF 5
Terraform 5
CC 5
Photon t 2
D turret 2
This gives 85 Econ 79 Construction and 80 Production. Additionally, 4 trade routes and can build up to heavy cruisers.
There will be variations for orbit 1 instead of 2. The number urban structures and solar/fusion plants will vary. If you need to not build some other buildings, build fewer RFs and MRs.
A good intermediate build for a secondary research base is:
2nd orbit Arid/Tundra planet
Urban Structures 17
Solar Plants 9
Fusion Plants 8
Metal Refineries 13
Research labs 20
Robotic Factories 9
Shipyards 10
Spaceports 15
EC 5
NF 5
Terraform 5
CC 5
Photon t 2
D turret 2
This gives 87 Econ 83 Construction and 84 Production. Additionally, 4 trade routes and can build up to heavy cruisers. You traded 2 levels of RL for 1 level each of MR and RF.
There will be variations for orbit 1 instead of 2. The number urban structures and solar/fusion plants will vary. If you need to not build some other buildings, build fewer RFs and MRs.
A good intermediate build for a primary and secondary production/econ base is:
2nd orbit Rocky Planet
Urban Structures 15
Solar Plants 8
Fusion Plants 8
Metal Refineries 20
Robotic Factories 9
Shipyards 16
Spaceports 15
EC 5
NF 5
Terraform 5
CC 5
Photon t 2
D turret 2
This gives 100 Econ 104 Construction and 130 Production. Additionally, 4 trade routes and can build up to battleships and fleet carriers.
There will be variations for metallic/crater and for orbit 1 instead of 2. The number urban structures and solar/fusion plants will vary. If you need to not build some other buildings, build fewer RFs.
The differences between primary and secondary production bases don’t really come into play until after you have researched and are ready to build multi level platforms.
